Project Visit (2011)

Daniel Mirabella (Founder and Director), arrived back 23/02/2011 from a two month project visit over January and February this year. The purpose of the visit was to implement a communications program, which Daniel is happy to report back was very successful. Daniel achieved a lot from this project visit, providing donations of 122 mosquito nets, over 80 USB flash drives, 30 digital cameras, 30 headsets, 10 desks (thanks to the Steber and Carney Family), card readers, external hard drives, 4 usb internet modems, 14 scientific calculators (thanks Ellana Hogan), 206 maths sets (thanks Jemma Hogan), over 30 textbooks (thanks Evie’s friends) and a video camera and tripod. Daniel provided training in computer basics, basics of photography and basics of navigating the internet. Now that a direct link of communication has been established, HOPE Uganda can now assist donors to purchase much needed school equipment from the local town, serving to fuel the local economy and enhance prosperity for all.

Special Thanks:

HOPE Uganda would like to extend a special thanks to the following:

  • Rotaract Club of Perth: for their ongoing support.
  • Our Lady of the Mission Parish Whitfords: for making the 2011 trip possible, for providing over $1000 in monetary donations and donating most of the equipment mentioned above.
  • Hancock Family: for making very generous donations to our projects throughout last year and their generous support for this past trip.

Social Networking Pilot Project

As a part of the communications program implemented this past project visit. The improved communication has allowed Daniel to setup an online social space for all St. Teresa Girls’ College supporters, students and teachers. The Network is going to be run by the youth of Whitfords parish as a pilot project. The social network can be found at: www.stteresaschool.ning.com

The Next Big Thing

HOPE Uganda is currently undergoing a change in management and is also revaluating its milestones. The next big project that HOPE Uganda will be undertaking will be the construction of a four storey dormitory which is estimated to cost $250,000, however we are still waiting for the final plans to be complied by our contractor and we will endeavour to provide a final figure in the near future.

Concert Success!

The concert held at St Josephs Church in Subiaco (7/11/2010), was a great success with all proceeds to HOPE Uganda. The concert showcased some of WAs most exciting emerging artists, including the Western Australian Vocal Ensemble (WAVE) and the 2 Cent Professionals.  Wed like to thank the many talented artists and volunteers who so generously gave their time in support of HOPE Uganda. The event was a great success, and raised around $3000 which will go towards the buildings for the teachers accommodation at St Teresas school in Uganda.

One of the many highlights of the concert was a specially composed work by award winning young composer Perry Joyce titled The Dreamers of Dreams. It celebrates the dreams of the young, the opportunity for change, and the power we all have to be movers and shakers of tomorrow.
